Contraindications

Conscious Connected Breathing — Contraindications and Precautions
Conscious Connected Breathing is a powerful breathing technique that involves faster and deeper breathing than usual. While this method can have profound physical and emotional benefits, it may not be suitable for everyone. For safety reasons, certain contraindications apply, and in some cases, the practice should only be undertaken with medical approval.

Contraindications
Conscious Connected Breathing is not recommended in the following situations:

  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • Detached retina or glaucoma
  • Cardiovascular diseases (including angina, previous heart attack, or stroke)
  • Severe asthma (mild to moderate asthma may be discussed; please bring your inhaler to the session)
  • Diagnosed aneurysm of any kind
  • Kidney disorders
  • Epilepsy or a history of epileptic seizures
  • Use of medication that affects brain structure, such as antidepressants or medication for ADD/OCD
  • Recent surgery, stitches, or physical injuries
  • Uncontrolled thyroid disorders
  • Diagnosed psychiatric conditions such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia
  • Hospitalization for a psychiatric condition or emotional crisis within the past 10 years
  • Severe psychosomatic conditions

Situations Requiring Caution
In the following cases, Conscious Connected Breathing is generally not advised unless your treating physician has approved participation. A gentle or restorative breathing practice may be more appropriate in these situations:

  • Pregnancy (gentle breathwork techniques are suitable in any stage)
  • Mild to moderate asthma (please discuss with your facilitator in advance)
  • Recent surgery or other physical conditions
  • Thyroid disorders (some conditions may allow gentle breathing exercises)
  • Diabetes (please bring your glucose supply to the session)
  • PTSD, anxiety, or trauma (consult your facilitator to choose a suitable breathing technique)
  • Active recreational drug use (must be discussed before the session; the technique may need to be adapted)

In Summary
At all times, your safety and well-being are the top priority. Please inform your facilitator of any medical or psychological condition before beginning a session so that the breathing practice can be safely tailored to your needs.

About Conscious Connected Breathing
Conscious Connected Breathing is a technique in which the inhale and exhale flow seamlessly, without pauses. This continuous rhythm supports the release of tension, emotional blockages, and invites deeper awareness and relaxation. Because this process can be quite powerful, it is important to approach it with care and mindfulness. Being aware of potential contraindications helps ensure that each session is safe, tailored, and supportive for your personal well-being.
